Every creative person has hours that do not belong to anyone else. Late at night or early in the morning, before the day forms an opinion about itself.
Mine start around 10pm. The judgment softens. The self-editor takes a break. Whatever comes out in those hours is rarely polished, but it is almost always honest. I have stopped fighting it and started planning around it.
